Five Benefits of Coffee You Probably Didn’t Know About

So we all love coffee, right? Some of us must have it before we do ANYTHING in the morning. (Me) Apparently, coffee does more than just help us function properly in our day-to-day lives. There are some real health benefits associated with our dear friend, coffee. While the benefits are endless, we kept it simple and listed five of our favorite benefits! Let’s dive right into them.

Increases Fiber Intake

According to the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, one cup of brewed coffee gives you up to 1.8 grams of fiber toward the recommended intake of 20-38 grams.

Eliminates Muscle Pain

Two cups of coffee can decrease post-workout muscle pain up to 48%. (Journal of Pain, March 2007).

Prevents Cavities

Strong black coffee kills the bacteria on teeth that could result in tooth decay. However, adding milk or sugar to your coffee cancels this benefit. (Journal of Conservative Dentistry, Jan-Mar 2009).

Recommended for Better Health

The USDA’s 2015 dietary guidelines suggest that having 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day is great for overall health, reducing the risk of disease. Nevertheless, adding things like sugar and creamers swiftly voids any potential benefits. More recent studies suggest 3 cups is the optimal amount (Detroit Free Press, Newsgram).

Promotes Antioxidants

Just one serving of coffee has more antioxidants than normal servings of blueberries, raspberries, grape juice, and orange juice. Antioxidants in coffee diminish inflammation, ultimately reducing the risk of related disorders, such as cardiovascular disease. (Monash University, 2015).

See? When coffee is consumed in moderation, there are some MAJOR benefits that come along with it. There is no reason not to enjoy a cup (or two) of coffee every single day. I know I will be! Comment below and let us know which benefit of coffee surprised you.
